Studies in Protestant and Catholic Theology, Philosophy and Social Sciences in Würzburg, Bonn and Bochum; after a vikarship (practical part of education in ministry) at the Protestant Church Holzwickede, Germany. From 1995-2002 Teaching Assistant and Assistant Professor at the Chair of Systematic Theology (Ethics), University of Bochum, Germany. 1999 Ph.D.-thesis: "summa cum laude"; Faculty of Protestant Theology, University of Bochum, prized by the DFG (German Research Foundation), published in 2000: „Antwortender Glaube und Vernunft. Zum Ansatz evangelischer Fundamentaltheologie“ ("Responsive Faith and Reason. An Approach of Protestant Foundational Theology"); 2002-2008 Juniorprofessor (Associate Professor) of Social Ethics (Bioethics), 2008-2010 Full Professor at the Faculty of Protestant Theology at the University of Marburg, Germany; Research fellowships at the Universities of Bielefeld (2003/2004) and Bremen (2005); 2008 Vice Dean, 2008-2009 Dean of the Faculty of Protestant Theology at the University of Marburg; since 2010 Full Ordinarius at the Department of Theology at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen Nuremberg;  since 2011 member of the DFG senate panel for animal experiment research and from 2011-2016 member at the "European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies"; since 2012 member and vice-chair of the German Ethics Council (Deutscher Ethikrat) and since 2016 chair of the  German Ethics Council; in 2015  Peter Dabrock declined the offer for a chair at the Humboldt-University in Berlin.
